Bomb threat leads to HS
evacuation
Published: Friday, September 28, 2007 9:40 AM
Students at Washington High School were required to evacuate the
school after a bomb threat was called in Thursday morning.
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department responded to the call
shortly after 9 a.m. Later on, a suspicious package was found
outside of the building, located at 7340 Leavenworth Road, by a
school resource officer after an order to sweep the area was
given by officers.
The KCK Police Department’s EOD Unit was called in to
investigate the package. The unit determined that there was
nothing dangerous inside, but still the unit took the package
away and later blew it up. The exact contents of the package
were not released.
Students - who had been moved to a nearby athletic field at the
school - returned to class at about 11:30 a.m. after police
cleared the scene.
The Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools District released a
statement informing parents about the situation and informed
them that they did not need to pick up their children.
No one was injured because of the incident, which is still under
investigation.
With the threat at Washington, facilities in all four school
districts in the county have experienced security threats in the
past several months. Last spring, Piper High School, Turner High
School and Bonner Springs High School all experienced a threat
of some kind. Bishop Ward High School also caught a student
bringing a toy gun to school. |

Help Needed
Hi! Just wondering
if someone might have a copy of the Ekatak from 1963 or 64? I
was in first grade there and have begged my mom to find the
yearbook, but she hasn't been able to. My name was Betsy Soens,
and if someone could copy any photos of myself to send me that would
be incredible! Thanks so much.........really, I have no
pictures of my life as a young child.....there was "a lot" going on
in our house all the time so things just got misplaced.
Thanks again folks. Betsy (Soens) Madan - email:

Shermie Wiehe I stopped and visited with Mr. Ed
Hoskings after not seeing him since graduation. He's in great
shape and all white hair but looks the same as the days of WHS band
days. Seeing him was a highlight of my 7-day vacation visiting
family in Kansas. Ed retired I believe in 1994. I also
learned from Ed that Mr. Marlin Cooper, (Coronado Band teacher)
retired from teaching music also. Mr. Hoskings is still active
on the tennis court. If you would like to send Mr. Hoskings a
message, his email address is as follows:

Rhoades I went to Arrowhead
Jr. High and started at Washington but move during my sophomore
year, without getting into the yearbook, but had paid for one, so I
have the 67-68 edition. I remember about 1/2 of the folks,
since the other 1/2 came from Coronado, I guess. I was one of
about 4 sophomores who made it into A Cappella choir that year
(Vicki Rhodes & Bonnie Luscombe were two others) and at home coming
was one of the students stuffed into a VW beetle and rolled out on
to the field during half-time. I moved shortly after that.
I have wondered about a lot of folks since then.
