1974-96 |
Oakley, Jim
Kansas City, KS,
eileenjim1@aol.com. What an interesting period in ones life
when you spend a couple of decades of it on a small island in
the Pacific. That's what I did from September 1974 thru mid
February of 1996 except for a little hiatus in May-Oct '88 to
golf in Europe. Anyway, things started with me at the Kwajalein
Hospital as a Medical Tech and Pharmacy until I joined Quality
Assurance in '84. I moved on when the Aviation Supply
Coordinator for Spares came along in '90 and there I stayed
until retirement. Hard to realize that your big worries were if
your bike was going to be there when you left the club or clubs.
That was mine anyway and I wasn't to disappointed if it was gone
as I couldn't ride it anyway. That was proven to me several
times during my two decades. As I look back on that time I can
see why people get the Kwajalein Connection as you don't forget
the island whether you do one tour or twenty. I'm sure things
have changed a lot since '96 as they did during those two
decades but that's the good part with no time to get bored. I'm
currently enjoying retirement with a good boss, incentive
raises, promotions and one trying problem, trying to rise before
10 a.m. I find I have a green thumb which I thought was
something you got when you let a cut go too long. Anyway, we
have a great looking yard, flowers galore, and not too far from
the American Legion with a great "Happy Hour". I'm still
looking forward to getting my drivers license one of these days's
but I keep remembering the bike. |

waking up before 10 AM. I use to be at work at 5 AM." |
