We are a Mom & Pop business where both Joan and I have a solid background in tax preparation.  I am not a CPA my degree is in Math with a minor in physics and we have a combined 22 year experience.

Support for the filer will be provided by both DDTP and our software supplier, Drake, a North Carolina Company.  The Web based program uses an interview method to prepare your return.  The tax program interviews you by asking questions about your personal finances then prepares your return.

We have prepared a fictitious return of a person employed overseas. We are using  this information to provide a description of the steps needed to prepare the tax return. These steps (forms 1116 & 2555) are then made available at our WEB site as on screen help.

Your own return will be quite different.  You may have dependents and investments.  You may also have housing allowance and other benefits.  All these issues can be handled by accurately answering the questions presented by the tax program.

I have already assisted the supplier of this WEB based  process with regard to the 1116 and 2555 forms. The preparation of the fictitious return turned up a flaw in the process which was fixed for the 2010 package and the 2011 program.  There is a new requirement for a special form for foreign investments exceeding $10,000 so I will work with Drake to make that form available. When you are employed outside the country you get an automatic two month extension to file. I will make sure that support for the extension is provided.
