You came into my life when I wasn't looking
Smiling like a superstar with arms wide open
We danced and you sang to me all night long
Thanking me for being there and coming along
I got to know you as you came around
I knew you were someone I couldn't turn down
In the midst of your turmoil you showed me your heart
A kindness and a care and the ability to laugh
We shared some happy moments with many simple truths
In our own way helping each other get through
In a smile, a laugh, a touch and a sigh
In those moments it sure felt right
You took me to some places I had never been
Like on a mountainside trying to dance with the wind
I gave you some tender words to think things through
Within a smile and a sigh and a heart that's true
Soon other voices began needing your ways
And I knew we had to say goodbye one day
You had to get everyone back on solid ground
To do the right thing and not let anyone down
Every once in a while someone comes along
Helps you move through and gets you to be strong
So with your kindness I now have a place to go
A better home and garden, smiling, going with the flow
Yes, I am happy to have had you in my life for a while
And you sure were lucky to have me in yours with a smile
So whatever fate throws us, the time was meant to be
And things happen for a reason, I believe
And not a day goes by that I don't think of you and smile
Knowing we had something that was real for a while
And though this poem was written for you
It's in these words that now help me move through
So I hope at times you'll think of me and smile
