Happy Father's Day

by Joanne Bessom

This is a day for all fathers whose hearts they touch
A day for all daughters who miss their Dad so much
This has been a long time in the making
With words held so dear and true for your taking

Remembering a time way back when
In a child's laugh the touch of a hand
Showing me the Northern Lights and a star studded sky
Answering all my questions as I ask why

From childhood to the teens and Adult years too
You always listened and came with a heart so true
Although at times I made you cry
You didn't know whether I'd grow up or just sigh

From football to Denver to the desert sky
From the Mountains of Lake Tahoe in-flight across the sky
Always with a laugh, always a smile
Always with a caring heart that covered the many miles

Angels were all around when you said your last goodbye
Then some days later a falling star swooshed on by
I knew in a moment that it was you
The wings that fly you home were true

Tears from a broken heart shed
Made your grave a flowerbed
Guess my cry had been heard
"Never give up who you are," you said

Dad you were always there for me
Giving me back my smile letting me be
Whether it be for closure or things never to repeat
Giving me your wisdom and letting me see

Now when I hear a robin's song
I know you'll be with me all day long
For it is in that song that brings me a smile
Knowing a light will shine for a while

And the seeds planted on this day
Give an abundance of hope in all ways
I've said this many times before
Thanks Dad, you'll always be in my heart's pocket evermore!
