A Daughter's Prayer

by Joanne Bessom

Mom can I have one moment with you
Cause I never healed over my loss of you
I'm like a lost kid looking for home
In finding a missing link to my soul

The day you left my brothers and me behind
I had to have a strength that I needed to find
I carried your loss inside of me never letting go
Carried it inside the fear that can burn the soul

Was it you that walked behind me giving a push along the way
Did I hear you in some distant thunder from a world away
Were you there beside me when I lost my first-born son
Were you there beside me just remembering when

A gift given to me in time was two true hearts
A son that carries his own tune and a love that will never depart
Life is so precious and fragile too
Mom can I have one moment with you

To say what needs to be said in my heart and my soul
That you will always be with me as I grow old
But in a new light and on a brighter star
Knowing you will always be with me and never far

Goodbye Mom thank you for that moment in time
It's in this memory of you that will always be kind
For my heart is open now and my soul is still
You gave me a new hope and I know you always will
